Water charges and consumption

Moving to consumption-based water billing

Sivakka is undergoing a transition to consumption-based water billing. The first sites switched to water billing in 2022, but the transition will take several more years. The change is driven by the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive. The change is aimed at reducing people’s water consumption, which has a big impact on energy consumption in the property and on the carbon footprint of housing.

Water is included in the rent

In some properties, water is included in the rent. In these cases, the rent is slightly higher than in the case of water bills, as the rent must also cover water consumption.

Water is paid for according to consumption

In Sivakka, where the tenant pays for the water, billing is based on consumption and is done on a monthly basis. There are no water prepayments. In Sivakka’s new-build and renovation projects, water is always billed on the basis of consumption. A number of sites are transferred to water billing each year and residents are informed in advance. When these properties are brought on to the meter, rents are reduced by the average consumption. If water consumption is lower than average, the cost of housing can be reduced.

Current water billing rate, next revision 1.3.2026

  • Price of cold water 5.25 €/m³
  • Hot water price 10.25 €/m³

Water consumption monitoring

Residents with consumption-based water billing can monitor their water consumption in MySivakka. Consumption can be monitored on a monthly and daily basis.

Fault situations

Faults must always be reported to property maintenance. Water leaks in fixtures, such as taps and toilets, must be reported immediately by telephone to property maintenance. A quick report will avoid further damage and save costs.
